The Truth About Witchcraft Today by Scott Cunningham. Despite the outdated cover, this short book is the best reference book you can have in explaining your beliefs and practices to other people. It goes through what we do/don't do, and includes a short history of our beliefs. Buy a couple (it's cheap!) to have on hand to share with friends, family and coworkers who are trying to understand just what exactly it is that you do on the full moon! (A Witch On The Go favorite)
The Chalice and the Blade by Rianne Eisler. A very intriguing look at history going back to goddess times and bringing the reader through various cycles of history up to the present day. A dense book you might want to read slowly or discuss in a book group. A must have for history buffs and for anyone interested in our past as well as our future.
Woman's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets and Woman's Dictionary of Symbols and Sacred Objects by Barbara Walker. Full of fascinating information and tidbits of lore, both books serve as an excellent in-depth reference for women and, despite the title, men interested in spirituality. From animals to gods and goddesses, historical figures to runes and symbols, you're bound to find what you're looking for in one of these big books!
